Dengue raises head again
Highest cases reported from Colombo then Gampaha district.
As at the 08th July 40 persons have been reported to have died and 22,779 cases of dengue have been reported from island wide during the past six months as revealed by the officials of the ministry of health. In the Colombo district alone 7369 cases have been reported from the dengue epidemic while 2091 cases from the Gampaha district. These had been reported even when the presidential task force
had launched an anti dengue campaign.
The other cases have been reported from Nugegoda,Dehiwala ,Mt Lavinia,Kolonnawa,Kaduwela Moratuwa ,Maharagama ,Piliyandala,Ja Ela, Mahara,Wattala, Kelaniya,Attanagalla, Beruwela,Panadura.It is reported that cases have reported from the entire Kandy district.
From the main Colombo region 1879 dengue cases have been reported. It is also reported that during the past eight days more than thousand cases have been reported from the Colombo district.It is reported that the dengue patients are visiting the IDH fever hospital in large numbers.As a result the out patients department is to be opened until 8 pm every day.
It is also reported that a large number of patients are treated at the Kalubowila Teaching hospital, Lady Ridgeway children’s hospital, the national hospital, Negombo general hospital and the Kandy teaching hospitals.
It is also reported that out of these patients from the western province alone 47.61% patients are reported. Statistics have revealed that the percentage increase of the number of patients from 2015 to 2016 during the same period has been 38%.There have been 70 constructions sites in Colombo district which have been found to be having dengue breeding mosquitoes and they have been cautioned.
It is also reported that the authorities of the ministry of health are to commence a dengue prevention campaign on the July 13th,14th and 15th in areas where the dengue epidemic has affected mostly. Accordingly these campaigns would be held in Colombo,Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Matale,Galle,Matara, Kurunegala and Galle districts.
