Vehicle importers in a media briefing expressed contentment over increase in taxes
The increase in the import taxes of vehicles was spoken widely among the people and the media. The members of the two associations in relation to the import of vehicles had met the finance minister Ravi Karunanayake
.During this meeting they had not expressed concern on the increase of taxes of imported vehicles. They had called for a media briefing subsequently.
It had been revealed by members of both associations that with the increase in taxes the prices of imported vehicles have become stable.
The President of the vehicle importers association Mahinda Sarathchandra had said that during the past 35 years the prices of imported vehicles had been subjected to fluctuations during the past 35 years and it is now that these prices have become stable. He had further added that these prices should be kept static for at least another two years.
At the same media briefing the President of the Lanka vehicle importers association Indika Sampath Merinchage had also added that the members of his association had expected a tax revision they had expected to be made.
The members of the two vehicle importers association had met the finance minister Ravi Karunanayake to obtain redress to have the vehicles in the port to be cleared within the next 03 days .It had also been to get an assurance from the minister that a further increase would not be made in the next budget.
When the question was raised by the media personnel about the increase of the value of vehicles it was said that request had been made by the importers of the association of three wheelers.
When the question was asked by the media personnel what advantages the public would get the answer given was that they would know of a stable market price for vehicles at all car sales .
