It is reported that the office of the Public Utilities Commission are making provisions for the electricity subscribers  to decide on an option of determining the monthly electricity bill from the month of October split into two for the electricity
consumed during the peak and off peak hours.

The times of the peak hours are from 5.30am to 10.30am while  10.30.am to 5.30pm  are to be  classified as off peak and  from 5.30pm to 10.30 pm as peak hours..These are the categories of the peak and non peak hours.

The amount of electricity consumed during the non peak hours charged would be 40% less than that used in peak hours. It is reported that those consumers who wish to have their split will have to pay a sum of rupees eight thousand or a bit less for the fixing of a separate metre in addition to what they have now. This charge to fix another metre would be once and fall all payment.

It is also said that even now at commercial industries and institutions this method is already in operation.  It is learnt that this optional system is to be introduced to dwelling households.
