MP Vijitha Herath's Rajagiriya accident allegations: under influence of liquor
MP Mr. Vijitha Herath of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna faced an accident in Rajagiriya day-before-yesterday. His vehicle collided with a telephone post near the HSBC Bank damaging the post severely. However there was no damage
caused to human life as such. What he had told the police was that while trying to save the life of a pedestrian who was trying to cross the road he had swerved to the left. The Welikada Police arrested MP Vijitha Herath for careless driving and for damaging public property as a result.
After the incident the Minister was directed too obtain a medical report and so far there is no information to say that he was under liquor at the moment of the accident. However, the Divaina Newspaper which got involved in a conflict with the JVP recently had reported today that it had been revealed by medical reports that he had been under liquor. But the Lankadipa, Mawbima, Rivira inclusive of other newspapers have not reported anything of that nature. When his case was being heard in Aluthkade Courts, according to medical reports whether he was under liquor or not is still to be revealed.
Whatever it is, the website belonging to Wimal Weeravansha had been publishing a number of letters to confirm that his old friend Vijitha Herath had driven the vehicle at a time he was under liquor; right throughout a number of hours after the accident took place. He had even displayed a video which stands evidence that those who were nearby had used obscene language.
MP Vijitha Herath who forwarded his ideas about this incident to the media said that he was in no way under liquor and that certain websites are trying to launch a 'mud broadcast' as well as through Facebook messages. Shown below is the statement given by MP Vijitha Herath.
