Fire on Shangri-la's Five Star Hotel in Hambantota
A Five Star Hotel belonging to the world renown Shangri-la Hotel Chain was opened by President Maithripala last evening in Mirijjawila, Hambantota.
At the time of the opening ceremony there had been an exhibition of fireworks and on that occasion a spark of fire had accidentally fallen into a shed situated at the hotel premises and the
shed has been constructed of hay and thatched with coconut branches which of course were inflammable and had caught fire to the shed. Since there were no indications that the fire was spreading and because it was a shed constructed for the purpose of embellishment the hotel authorities have taken no special action to extinguish the fire. No damage was done to any person or the Hotel building, it was reported.
