Wellampitiya people's response on Minister's visit
A news item about a public protest where Ministers who had gone to see the flood situation these days were hooted at was flashed across a certain newspaper and several alternate political websites today. The truth or falsity of this piece of news could not be inquired into because the name of the Minister has not been disclosed.
Whatever it is, it is worthwhile to see into this matter. That news item which was published in the Island Newspaper is as below
------------------------------------------------------------------
Several Ministers who went to Wellampitiya day-before-yesterday (21) to see the situation of the people who were displaced as a result of the floods were hooted at by those people and they had showed a strong protest. A certain person who became aggressive was observed saying, "only today after such a calamity had fallen that these fellows are coming. How when they wanted the vote! When we face some trouble they're not to be seen anywhere around the place. Now they're coming for lies .... to capture photos and go on boat rides. During the past few days not a single MP came in sight of this place. Only now animal compassion has dawned on them. May the merits be showered upon the media and the innocent people for having helped us from the time this disaster struck".
At the time the MPs who came in boats got into the waters and went among the public the protest of these people flared up. These MPs travelling in the boats had been engaged in a boat ride, the people had said. The MPs who were inconvenienced had departed amidst the security of the police officers in the very boats they had arrived in.
