The Galle International cricket stadium to close down
The Minister of public administration and home affairs who is also from Galle district addressing a meeting had said that the Galle International Cricket Stadium where international cricket matches are staged would be in future given to be used for the school children in the vicinity for their benefit.
He had emphasized that the the Galle International cricket stadium which was rebuilt and modernized after the 2004 tsunami had not come to the levels of doing justice for the money spent as an International fixture is held only at long intervals.This ground is to be given instead for school children for cricket and other games.He also had added that common people also could use the cricket ground for sports activities.
The Minister had said that a new international stadium would be built in Mattegoda in close proximity to host international cricket matches.He had added that a mistake had taken place when this ground was uplifted to become an international venue and that mistake need to be rectified now.
