Tense situation in parliament - Update

The report of committee appointed to investigate about the unpleasant behaviour which commotion transpired in parliament yesterday (3) was released this afternoon. Accordingly it has been decided to advise 2 MPs and to take
disciplinary action against 2 others.

Thus it has been decided to thoroughly advise Dinesh Gunawardena, Bandula Goonawardena and Nishantha de Silva for acting in a manner of violating disciplinary procedures disregarding orders of the Chair. It has been pointed out that they had instigated acts such as making allegations aimed at the presiding authority in an unpleasant manner and in abusing which of course was improper while yet if a problematic situation had arisen, a case of friction could have been avoided if it was discussed and settled while still  remaining in their seats.

In the meantime, a heated situation resulting in fisticuffs had been allowed to develop in the House because of the contribution of Palitha Thevarapperuma and Prasanna Ranaweera in this connection and therefore it has been decided to take maximum disciplinary action against them and to come to a decision in respect of both of them when parliament convenes the very next time. The allegations against them are that they had behaved indecently in the presence of school children including other viewers thus bringing disrepute to the honour of the parliament. In addition the Speaker has further made a request to take an interest in following disciplinary procedures at Party level and in the case of relevant Members of Parliament where they are concerned.
