Severe weather condition prevailing in the country -- Update

10 people have died and 5 are missing due to disasters that took place as a result of the inclement weather conditions that prevailed during the past 6 days. These deaths were reported after the torrential rain and strong winds which commenced last 11th and because of the

depression that developed in proximity to Sri Lanka. This disastrous situation was subjected to a dialogue accompanying photographs even among the international media.

Details about those dead and those missing are at present as follows:

                                                                                                                               A 10 month old baby girl who had been sleeping in the house had fallen into the water which came inside her room and had died day-before-night night as a result while 2 individuals of Denniswaththa in Dehiowita area, Kegalle had died with some rooms being subjected to a landslide with 2 gone missing in the process. 1 person had died in Ranwala area, Kegalle when he had gone to pick coconuts in Ma Oya and had been swept away by the torrent. ! person had died from the lanslide in Imbulpe area, Ratnapura while 1 other had died from a stroke of lightning in Galnewa area, Anuradhapura. 1 person from Poddala, Gonapura had slipped and fallen during the rain and had accidentally stepped on an electric wire in the process and was struck by electric shock, dying on the spot. 1 people had died with 4 houses in Magmmana, Eheliyagoda coming under a landslide. 1 other person had died last night having been swept away by the waters in Batangala area in Dehiowita. 3 people were missing even until last afternoon day-before-yesterday. A person who was travelling from Matara towards Kamburugamuwa on a motor bicycle had died when the branch of a tree had fallen on him.
