Scarcity of vegetables owing to heavy rains
The former President of the Trading association UB Ekanayake had said that owing to the heavy rains that have prevailed in the pat few days the quantity of vegetables received at the Dambulla economic centre has been reduced by ninety
percent.
He had said that the lorries which bring in vegetables from up country to the Dambulla economic centre which usually arrive by evening had not reached Dambulla owing to many reasons. Some roads have been inundated owing to flooding, inability to reap the harvest, flooding of the fairs, the reduced numbers who come to purchase the harvest have been the main reasons for the scarcity of vegetables at the Dambulla economic centre.
Hence as a result only a few vegetables like pumpkin and cucumber were seen at the Dambulla economic centre and they were sold between Rs 20-40 per kilo.
