Huge landslide in Aranayaka!
The three hamlets Siripura, Elangapitiya and Pallebage belonging to Aranayaka, Mawanella have been subjected to a huge landslide today. About 258 families are living in these 3 hamlets and a large crowd had disappeared in the process of this
landslide. However, it was reported that 80 people have managed to save their lives.

This landslide had taken place around 6.30 in the evening and at about 4.30 p.m. the earth was observed cracking. As a result of the landslide the houses had totally been flattened to the ground. A team of soldiers have left to the area concerned to enquire about the tragedy. Around 300 persons who had been living in adjoining areas of this landslide are at present given refuge at a school for safety. Centre for Disaster Management and the police are engaged in directing operations in search of those who are missing and accurate statistics of those missing have still not been reported.
