Flooding of Gampaha district is because of sea planes
It had been revealed the cause flooding of the Gampaha district is because of allowing the water of Dandugam Oya to stagnate and not allowing the water to flow into the lagoon in the vicinity.
It has revealed that a sand wall has been erected between the waters of Dandugam Oya and the lagoon which allows the water to stagnate instead of preventing the water from moving into the
lagoon. This had been done to allow sea planes to land and take off from the waters of the Dandugam Oya.
President Maithripala Sirisena after this was revealed had ordered the army personnel to break the sand wall constructed between the Dandugam Oya and the lagoon. This had been done on the instructions of the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Mahinda Amaraweera.
After the sand wall was broken sea planes had stopped landing on the waters of Dandugam Oya.
The reason for the flooding of some areas of the Gampaha district has been attributed for the stagnation of the waters in the Dandugam Oya without allowing to drain off into the lagoon.
