Beautician Found Dead In Bandaragama
An incident of a Beautician from Bandaragama, Rambukkana who is supposed to have set herself on fire was reported yesterday. It is suspected that she had died in this manner as a result of a conflict with her husband and what certain persons of her family say is that she had been set on fire and killed her this way.
The deceased Gagani Lankadari is a 30 year old mother of one son aged 10 years. Her husband is one Lasantha Janaka Perera and he is employed in the position of a Co-ordinating Secretary of Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera, it was reported. It was when she was in her home that her body had caught fire on Wednesday (25) night. At that
time her husband who had tried to put out the flames too has suffered injuries. Both victims were despatched to the hospital and the wife breathed her last there while the husband is under treatment having suffered injuries.
Though the Beautician's mother and sisters from her side was present at the post-mortem, there was nobody present from the husband's side. The deceased's mother had mentioned in the presence of the Coroner that she is not prepared to accept the medical reports. She had said that before the Beautician was admitted to hospital, there were bleeding marks on daughter's body in addition to being burnt and that this was not indicated on the medical report and the mother had thus behaved in an aggressive manner saying that it may be a case of homicide. Under these circumstances the incident has been directed to courts. The Magistrate ordered further enquiry in this respect to solve reasons for the demise and also issued instructions to secure evidence from this victim's 10 year old son. In the process the dead body being released to her relatives was suspended and the case is scheduled to be heard on the 31st.
