Police to begin to prosecute traffic offenders via CCTV footage

Hitherto in Sri Lanka the CCTV footage were utilized to detect robberies.For this purpose the camera photographs were obtained from the

CCTV cameras fixed on the roads.

However it is now reported  by the officials of the police headquarters that with effect from the 04th instant the CCTV cameras fixed on the roads would be made use of to detect traffic offenders who drive through the streets of Colombo.It is also  added by the authorities of the police headquarters that in addition to the CCTV footage cameras fixed on to police vehicles also wuld be used to detect errant drivers who flout road rules.

The  owner of the vehicle would be made responsible although the vehicle may have been driven by another third party.his information has also been furnished by the authorities of the police headquarters.
