Protest of unauthorised settlers at Thotalanga ends




The residents of Thotalanga,  Fergusion road, Thajima watta in protest of the demolition of unauthorised houses had staged a protest on the Peliyagoda bridge. This had caused a severe traffic
congestion along the route. The protestors had been sleeping and sitting on the bridge thereby not allowing any traffic to move.


This protest made by the residents of the Thajima watta along Fergusion road was due to the fact that the Urban development authority had started demolishing the unauthorised structures without providing the affected residents with alternate dwelling houses.

Owing to the traffic congestion at Peliyagoda Nawaloka area it had caused a severe traffic congestion in the surrounding areas. The most affected had been the area where the Kandy road was entering into the Colombo city.

It has been reported that this afternoon the residents of Thajima watta had called off their protest.The authorities of the Urban Development Authority have had talks with these protesting residentsand had offered them with alternative dwelling houses to live.

With the ending of the protest after negotiations the Japanese friendship bridge was again open to the public.
