CID investigations on those who insulted Maithree with obscene words ....
over Social Media for having arrested Gnanasara Thera
After Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera was remanded for an offence of misbehaving in a way contrary to law within courts premises recently, the police have received complaints about several
persons who had made use of the internet to use low-grade and disgracing words including obscene language and even threatening President Maithreepala Sirisena demanding that the thera be released.
persons who had made use of the internet to use low-grade and disgracing words including obscene language and even threatening President Maithreepala Sirisena demanding that the thera be released.
What the Police Media Spokesman had said was that the Criminal Investigation Department has begun investigations according to those complaints. Subsequent to Galagodaaththe Thera was taken into custody, some monks attached to the Bodu Bala Sena Organisation have made a commotion at courts premises and the law was enforced in respect of them too on that occasion for having created an uproar.
Various ideas and comments were expressed based on this phenomenon across social media. Some had found fault with the behaviour of the thera while some others had blamed the government for having taken Galagodaaththe Thera into custody. Though nowhere was it published that President Maithreepala had made any orders in this connection, obscene threats were aimed at him across the social media. The CID are engaged in conducting investigations about individuals who initially spread such messages.
