Anura Kumara recalls Spider Man ....

at debate in parliament about Embilipitiya youth

A dialogue ensued in parliament about Embilipitiya youth who died and which incident created an uproar recently. MP Anura Kumara spoke

against ideas expressed by Minister Sagala Ratnayaka the latter of whom said that there is no foundation in allegations aimed at police regarding that particular incident. The MP then made a speech bringing in the well-known Spider Man in that connection.

On this occasion the Minister of Law and Order Mr. Sagala Ratnayaka had this to say: "Investigations are still not over in this connection. After investigations are finished, a complete report will be forwarded to parliament. There had been a tussle between mobile police officers who arrived at the spot where the party was going on and participants of the party. Sumith Jayawardena who was undergoing treatment had died. According to the IGP's orders, investigations are being carried out under the OIC of Ratnapura. Contradictory statements are seen both from the side of the deceased's party and the police as well. What the police say is that on the complaint that the neighbourhood was being inconvenienced because of the loudspeakers and when advice was given to stop the loudspeakers in operation, the members of the party had behaved in an aggressive manner. What the opposing party says is that because the police came and asked for arrak bottles, a quarrel flared up. It has also been revealed that no permission has been obtained for use of these loudspeakers.

There is no evidence to indicate that the deceased was pushed down. However one person has come forward to give evidence that he saw the deceased falling from a top-floor. Further investigations are being conducted to uncover the true situation. Since the post-mortem has still not been conducted, it has not been confirmed whether this is a case of homicide. We're sad about this incident. An impartial enquiry is taking place in this regard".

MP Mr. Anura Kumara replied in this manner: "(baduth hamuduruwonge .... naduth hamuduruwonge') statement. To break through glass and jump down from three floors .... this young man is not Spiderman. This is a report prepared for the safeguarding of the police. The Minister is there .... not to forward reports prepared by police. There's not even a clue in this report to say that investigations are conducted in a justified manner".
