There is no sufficient evidence to arrest Hirunika --Police
In regard to the abduction of a person from a shop in Dematagoda area by some supporters of Member of Parliament for Colombo district Hirunika Premachandra, the Colombo criminal investigations unit officials had concluded that
there is no sufficient evidence to arrest her.
It is reported that the officers of the Colombo police criminal investigations department had questioned the Member of Parliament Hitunika Premachandra on two occasions. However it has been ascertained that she has not been involved directly with the abduction of the person by her supporters.
The officers of the criminal investigation unit had revealed that some personal body guards of the Member of Parliament Hirunika Premachandra had without her knowledge had abducted the person using her defender jeep.
But the person abducted had confessed that Hirunika Premachandra had threatened him at her office in Kolonnawa.
From the investigations it had revealed that a conflict between two families in the Kolonnawa area had been settled when they were summoned to the office of Hirunika Premachandra
However in this connection the views of the Attorney General is expected, a higher officer of the criminal investigation department had added.
The incident had occurred on the 21st instant, when the private security guards of Hirunika Premachandra had forcibly abducted a young person who was working in a shop at Dematagoda. It is also reported that this young man had been retained in Hirunika Premachandra's office and had been severely threatened.
In this connection six persons said to be private security guards of the Member of Parliament have been arrested by the criminal investigation unit.
