What President Maithripala Sirisena had said yesterday by joining in at an interview of the Sunday Lankadeepa was that though he

would be taking steps to abolish the Executive Presidentship, his involvement in Politics would not end thereafter. He had also mentioned there that even if he does not contest for the position of President, he cannot give up Politics.

His idea verbatim is as follows: "I have very clearly stated that I would not be contesting once again for the position of President. That doesn't mean that I would stop from acting ideologically within my Politics. Politicians are the kind of people who can never stay away from it. That's the truth. As such within my political philosophy and my political vision I'll work beyond that too".
