CCTV related to Thajudeen murder .... deleted!
What turned out to be sensational news recently was that the video relating to the murder of Mr. Thajudeen was mysteriously killed after being
subjected to brutal harassment, had been found.
After it was clear that this death was a case of homicide according to judicial medical reports, what Minister Rajitha Senaratna exposed to the media was that the related CCTV video tape would be revealed to the media and that it would be possible to see scenes of the killers and scenes of members of the elite family who were connected to it as well. Whatever it is, what is now reported is that the said recordings of the CCTV videos have got erased.
An investigation had not been conducted in the year 2012 over the CCTV footage at the moment Mr. Thajudeen was murdered and his abduction took place at that time because the files concerned were thrown under the carpet to give the impression that it was not a case of murder but just a sudden accident. Police Headquarters say that footage of CCTV cameras are not preserved for a period of 3 years and are deleted within a short period of time. Accordingly this video recordings too have been deleted, enquiries reveal. It is by now reported that the police are seeking the assistance of the University of Moratuwa as to whether it is possible to recover the footage of the CCTV video so deleted and that it is a problematic issue. This situation has arisen because the incumbent government has resumed these investigations in March 2015, 3 years after this murder had taken place.
Maybe because of influence the police at that time had not conducted a proper investigation of any sort after this murder took place and as a result of this, several complications would have to be encountered in this connection as a consequence, police say. What the police are by now trying is to recover the CCTV coverage of scenes relevant to the killing. It is understood that the attempt is doubtful whether it would turn out to be successful.
