Story of Athula leaving Amaya behind ....

Since the inception of the marriage of Athula and Samitha Mudunkotuwa who carved a name among fans of this country as a singing duo from

the period 1990 there were stories spreading around that the two of them have fallen out with each other and are about to separate. Just as much as that saying goes 'Sanda - tharu - mal', even after a daughter was born, rumours began to circulate that Athula had dashed the child on the ground. Whatever it is, a smile flashed across the faces of those who made stories about them when after the lapse of several years a powerful politician actually happened to come into their midst. It was during this time that Samitha gave birth to a baby boy. When news began to spread that Samitha was having a connection with the politician, what Athula did was live separately without making any response as such. Later on after several years he entered into another marriage thus providing an answer to those who wove stories. Athula's second marriage was to a fashion model named Amaya. That was after severing connections with Samitha on a legal basis.

Though their fans thought that this issue would end there, it was not to be so. When the daughter of Athula's second marriage was born, these two families apparently showed signs of further getting united. What influenced this situation most was the affection Athula devoted to his daughter Kavi.

What became the Most Popular song of the musical award ceremony of Derana Channel in the year 2013 was the song sung by Athula - Samith. To collect the award Samitha had come with the daughter and Athula had come with Amaya and were seated close to each other and after the success, those of the two families shared the happiness among them. This loathsome sight was called by some at that time as 'these are American style'. Whatever it is, it was not possible for them to live according to the Sinhala culture at that time anymore.

When Athula's daughter of the second marriage was one year old, he began to hear stories about Amaya from various corners. We do not know the truth or falsity of those rumours. Why Athula believed these rumours could be imagined because he wished to live a solitary life in connection with such stories concerning this beauty who was almost half equal in age to him. During the period of about one year Athula had been carrying on his musical career from Colombo while Amaya was living in Mirigama with her daughter. It is not mentioned that Athula even went to visit them. During this period he had been getting close to his daughter from the previous marriage and inquiring into activities of that family once more and they had also come together for various ceremonies in the past. In addition recently Athula and Samitha with the two children had had gone for a concert in Doha-Qatar.

When these things began to come to light in public Amaya just could not keep her mouth shut. What she had told a weekend newspaper recently was that Athula had left her. That if she gets a good person, she would wed again. When this story was published across the web sites with great publicity, various comments began to flow and she would have felt the dire results of her private life being exposed beyond bounds.

When questioned about this point continuously by the media, what she said was, "not really separated like that as such". It may however be because of the shame. Whatever it is, several weekend newspapers have strived to find information about this hugger-mugger. One newspaper had even come forward to to ask this question from Kavi who is now in her adolescent age. At that point what she had said was, "this problem belongs to my father .... I don't like being asked from me". In the meantime Amaya has given a clear-cut reply to another newspaper. On that occasion what she had said was, "It's true that Athula left us and went. But he hasn't separated legally. He's still not with another woman .... alone. I don't like to be a burden to anybody. I do my things by myself. If I become lonely .... I'll take a decision after thinking well".
