Displays false fear on Great Heroes Celebrations yesterday in the North

Announcement from Defence Ministry too

A false fear about Tigers were launched across social networks and some web sites which
carried out propaganda on celebrating Great Heroes on an unofficial basis at a number of places in the North yesterday to mark the birthday of slain LTTE leader Prabhakaran. For this very reason the the Ministry of Defence had to issue a press release last evening about national security.

Though MP of the Tamil Alliance of North Province M.K. Sivajilingam, Prabhakaran's brother-in-law was present in front of the Nallur Kovil in Jaffna yesterday, it was observed that his pre-announcement to participate on the occasion had not turned out to be a success because only a crowd of less than hundred were seen present.

On behalf of the student in the North who committed suicide by jumping in front of a train after leaving behind a letter recently asking that the Tamil prisoners be released, The Education Office of the Northern Province had declared a special holiday for Tamil schools yesterday (27) to mark the day of sorrow, in that connection. The circular that was sent to schools said that this holiday was given to minimise the problems faced by school children and to express sorrow on the child who committed suicide which circular in fact was launched by the Great Heroes Programme. Whatever it is, the Police Spokesman mentioned that the main reason for the schools to be closed was that the final term examinations had come to a close.

In the meantime, it was reported that two Tamil web sites in operation at present, namel, Lankashri and Tamilwin had spread the heroic statement "We have hoisted the Eelam Flag" and so videoed it at a jungle somewhere in the North displaying a Tamil Eelam Flag and thus gained some thrill out of it.

What was reported last evening was that a special announcement was put out by the Ministry of Defence. It read: That all three Forces are kept stand by to provide the necessary support to the Police in the form of safeguarding law and order whenever there is a threat to undermine the existing peaceful environment and not to be carried away by false rumours underestimating national security.
