passport issue .... arrested by CID!

MP Wimal Weeravansha who had to face a problem regarding the
passport in travelling abroad this morning came back to the airport after settling that issue but then he had been taken into custody by the CID at the airport.

This morning he had arrived at about 3 to the airport having visas stamped on the old passport which he himself had informed as having been misplaced, with the intention of travelling abroad to Dubai, Italy, France and the United Kingdom. It was later mentioned that he had received an invitation by Sri Lankans in those countries for them to be kept informed upto date about the present situation in Sri Lanka and that it was for that reason that he thought of going there. Whatever it is, as the passport which he had said was misplaced and therefore invalidated and the system in the computer rejected it, he was told by airport authorities to come back again with a newly prepared passport. On that occasion Wimal had initially argued against them but later accepted what he was told and had left the airport, returning to the airport once again at approximately 8.30 in the morning after lodging an entry at the police station about the passport that was lost. He had then gone to the Immigration and Emigration Department and obtained an emergency passport with the same idea of travelling overseas.

Whatever it is, when he arrived at the airport he had been taken away and detained by the CID for interrogation saying that his passport issue has to be inquired into. A short while before this, addressing the media at the place where he was, Wimal had said that though he was detained, he is not being questioned and that this is a matter of revenge that has been launched on him and that this is also a case of harassment meted out to him in a political sense. In the process, a question over parliamentary privileges had been directed about this matter this morning, it was reported.
