Wimal trying to go abroad ....

turned back from airport because of passport issue

MP Mr. Wimal Weeravansha had forwarded his tickets to the counter at the Katunayaka International Airport preparing to travel overseas for a tour this morning around three o'clock on which occasion it was decided that his passport was not legible and under such
circumstances the airport authorities had come to a conclusion that he be prohibited from going abroad, it is reported. Under these circumstances, it is learned that Wimal has had to cancel his journey and turn back, it is understood.

He had got his ticket to travel to Italy. When the immigration and emigration authorities had perused the accuracy of the MP's passport and had inserted it to the computer, what the display signified was that it was not an accurate one and that it portrayed certain blemishes. Due to these reasons he was notified that it is not possible to let him proceed. It was also reported that at that moment the authorities informed him about it, he had got into a rage and had got involved in an argument. When checking further, the blemish concerned was highlighted by the computer. However it was not the issue relating to his name or his date of birth as such which was reported sometime back.

A few days ago MP Wimal had forwarded an application to the effect that he had misplaced his passport and had requested for a fresh one. Therefore a few days ago the said misplaced passport has been documented as an invalid passport by the computer system so that nobody could make use of it. It is this same passport however which was said to have been misplaced that he had used as the passport to go abroad this morning. As this MP himself has given instructions that this misplaced passport be invalidated, it was so done. Therefore he was informed that if that passport is to be brought back to order as before and the authorities had further notified him that if the new change is to be effected, an application has to be forwarded during working hours. Finally, the MP Wimal had accepted his mistake and had dropped the matter of going abroad and gone back home.
