over an allegation of homicide!

When Member of Parliament, Mr. Janaka Bandara Tennakoon had been notified to appear at the CID day-before-yesterday in connection with an inquiry concerning homicide he had admitted himself to a hospital avoiding the call and he was taken into custody yesterday at 3.30 while at the said hospital.

The police say that he had been staying as a resident patient at Lanka Hospitals, Narahenpita and thus had tried to be in hiding. A legal case against MP Janaka Bandara is presently being heard in courts regarding an incident of a person being shot dead in Matale area in the year 1999 and having injured another individual. The case in fact is still pending.

It was last 5th that he had been summoned by the CID to question him regarding this incident. However, as he had avoided the CID, the police who went in search of him came to know that he had admitted himself to hospital in this manner. The Police Media Unit has informed that he is at present hospitalised under police protection. A statement is expected to be recorded in future in respect of this murder.

Janaka Bandara who was a Minister during the regime of Mahinda Rajapaksa broke down in public on the occasion when Maithripala Sirisena came forward for the General Elections and spoke with dejection about the Party and then switched over to the Maithri faction and even managed to get a position as a Minister of the 100 Day Programme. However, when Mahinda happened to contest once again for the General Elections he again switched over to Mahinda's side and and tendered his resignation from his portfolio of Minister and and even fell down on his knees in front of Mahinda in public criticising Maithri and further took steps to hold a news briefing. He now has acquired the position of an MP of the Opposition SLFP.

Having been a suspect in a case of homicide after these political revolts subsequent to a span of 16 years is indeed something special. The police suspect that he is responsible for murdering a supporter of the Opposition during an election campaign in the year 1999. Because of political influences the police had not carried out a proper investigation regarding the incident and the Criminal Investigation Department has waited for an opportunity until an opportunity came their way, it was reported.
