Wimal, Udaya no longer Party Leaders in parliament

Less privileges!

Other Parties in parliament have resolved not to accept as Party Leaders Udaya Gammanpila and Wimal Weeravansha who
mucked about the parliament by making derogatory comments during the past proceedings of the House.

Wimal Weeravansha under the flag of Jathika Nidahas Peramuna and Gammanpila under Pivithuru Hela Urumaya have gained access to parliament being connected to the UPFA and although they are affiliated Parties to the UPFA, leaders of the main parties have decided not to consider them as recognised political parties within parliament environs. It has been decided to treat them only as members of parliament who represent the United People's Freedom Alliance and not as Party Leaders in parliament, henceforth. Under such circumstances they would have to forego privileges enjoyed by Party Leaders who represent the parliament in future.

Among such privileges is the privilege of occupying the front row and the priority given to make special statements in parliament at the opening of a session under Standing Orders 23 (2) which would be scrapped from them.

Party Leaders have determined to accept only the six political Parties United National Party, the United People's Freedom Alliance, the Tamil National Alliance, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and the E.P.D.P. recognised by the 8th parliament while the approval of the Speaker Mr. Karu Jayasuriya has been received in respect of that decision, it was reported.
