Dayasiri Jayasekera of the Alliance who was given the post of Minister of Sports was in fact a playful

character who had displayed skills in various events in sports from his schooling days. As such, it is assumed that of all members in parliament it is Dayasiri who is best suited for the position of Sports Minister.

Dayasiri Jayasekera's history of sports runs as far back as the time when he was having his education at Kurunegala Maliyadeva College. Dayasiri who has won awards as an athlete during his small age in the 100 and 200 meters running events had engaged in the game of Kabadi by joining the Hettipola Sports Club in Panduwasnuwara after leaving school. His side had been able to win the All Island Championship too in that game. Dayasiri who took an interest in throwing the discus when he was following his studies at the university was able to win the championship in throwing the discus in the men's category. Dayasiri has also taken part in Volleyball and Rugby in inter-society matches. Apart from all this he is someone who has been engaged in the martial arts of Wu Shu for a period of about 16 years. The media had reported that he even took part in a stint of fencing in the May Day Rally of 2014. As such, a person who engaged in the 6 games and sports of long-distance running, Kabadi, Discus-throwing, Volleyball, Rugby and Wu Shu has for the first time achieved the distinction of claiming the post of Minister of Sports.
