Supporters of Mahinda cut ribbon before Minister ....
when opening Kaduwela - Kadawatha Highway

Two women who were involved in a disruptive act by trying to cut the ribbon when the Kaduwela-Kadawatha Highway was opened last evening and a tense situation had arisen there.

The two women involved in this move had chanted, "this highway was made by Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa .... Jayawewa to Mahinda Mahaththaya". Shouting out in this manner the two women had pulled out two posters of Mahinda Rajapaksa smiling, hidden inside their bag and displaying the posters had attempted to cut the ribbon at the last moment, prior to the Minister. On this occasion distinguished guests including Japanese Consulate, Kenachi Suganuma and those who contributed in erecting this road such as representatives of foreign companies, engineers and a large number of prominent guests including politicians had witnessed the scene and were taken by surprise.

The policehad on that occasion arrested the two women for having behaved in a manner that disturbed the peace in that instance. Later the ribbon which the two women wanted to cut was tied up and the highway was legally opened by Minister of Highways, Mr. Lakshman Kiriella and other guests.

Information was received by the police that the two women who were taken into custody are those who held official posts in a women's association of the United People's Front Alliance of Mahara Area and that they had been motivated by a certain party who had given instructions for them to appear at the moment of this ceremony and behave in this manner. The police say that these two women had arrived at the opening ceremony well in time and had awaited until the auspicious moment in silence and had subsequently cut the ribbon with a scissor hidden with them.
