Four contest today for the post of Diya wadana Nilame

Four cornered tussle for election of new Diyawadana Nilame today

Today the 8th instant in the election for the 20th Diyawadana Nilame of the historical Dalada Maligawa Kandy. Since four experienced and competent personnel are contesting a keen tussle for victory is anticipated.

The election is to be held at the Senkadagala Buddhist institution and as two previous Diyawadana Nilames and two Basnayake Nilames are contesting a very keen tussle is expected.

They are the former Diyawadana Nilame Nilanka Dela Bandara and a previous Diyawadana Nilame Neranjan Wijeyeratne ,The basnayake Nilame of the Natha Devalaya attorney-at-law Gayan Heenkenda and the former Basnayake Nilame of the Ganegoda Devalaya, Rasika  Sudantha Punchi Bandara Senanayake.

For this election 301 persons are eligible to cast votes. Malwatu Asgiri Ubaya Viharayas chief incumbent monks,he Incumbents of 'Udarata Royal regime Viharaya's, Divisional secretaries,  Public trustees laymen and Basnayake Nilames of Kandy district are eligible to vote

The Director General of Buddhist affairs Chandraprema  Gamage will conduct the poll which will commence at 2 p.m today the 08th instant. The candidate selected could serve as the Dalada Nilame of historic Dalada Maligawa for a period of 10years.
