According to unofficial news being received by us about Preferential Votes which are being

counted at present, many in the the crowd of those who had approached with the idea of securing Minister portfolios are facing a situation where they would have to forego their seats in parliament. Some of them who were subjected to hooting by others when on election stage during the past few weeks are supposed to have been defeated at the parliamentary election on this occasion, unofficial sources report.

Among those in the said group are former Minister Lakshman Yapa who contested from Matara District, Mahinda Samarasingha who contested from Kaluthara, Shantha Bandara who contested from Kurunegala, Nandimithra Ekanayaka from Matale, Piyasena Gamage from Galle, Wijithamuni Soysa from Moneragala and Jagath Pushpakumara. Nirupama Rajapaksa too faces this fate from the Hambanthota list. In the process, it is reported that S.B. Dissanayaka is on the fence and is from the list for Kandy. Whatever it is, according to information received, because of having gone against Mahinda from among those who underwent these repercussions, it is learned that two Ministers are to be bestowed positions of MPs from the national list.
