RANIL WILL TAKE HIS OATHS THIS EVENING AS PRIME MINISTER

It is reported that 11 districts have come under the United National Party at the 2015 General Election the results of which are now being broadcast. As such, the United National Party has
greater powers of establishing a government. Mr. Ranil Wickremasingha, leader of the UNP is expected to take his oaths as the new Prime Minister at the President's Secretariat this evening in the presence of President Maithripala. He would be accepting his duties after being sworn-in at a simple ceremony and it is understood that he would then proceed to attend to the function of attending to the selection of Ministers.

Though it is apparent that a majority would be acquired, the final number of seats which would be clinched by the UNP has still not been specifically determined. In the meantime Minister John Amaratunga has said that the number of seats that can be acquired by the UNP could exceed 113 and if it so happens the UNP would be able to combine with minor Parties and form a government. If it is to the contrary, support would have to be solicited from others.
