POLICE SWITCH OFF LOUDSPEAKERS BECAUSE OF ....
MAHINDA'S DELAY AT KATUPOTHA RALLY
As the licence for loudspeakers had expired by the time former President Mahinda Rajapaksa
attended the election rally and was to address the meeting at Katupotha area in Kurunegala last 2nd, as an alternative he had to temporarily make use of a buffel and start his speech. As reported, it is as follows.
The organisers who arranged the meeting had obtained permission for the rally in Katupotha for the period 3 to 6 p.m. However, When Mahinda Rajapaksa came there after finishing other meetings it was about 7.30 p.m. Though other politicians had addressed the public over the loudspeakers during the first few hours, by the time Mahinda arrived the time for permission to use the loudspeakers had elapsed and thus the police had given no permission for use of the loud speakers thereafter.
As such, the organisers had decided to fix a small buffel instead of the loudspeaker and allow Mahinda Rajapaksa to address the audience. Thus it was reported that Mahinda Rajapaksa had made a brief speech on that occasion and had left the place.
