MORATUWA BUS DRIVEN ON WRONGSIDE .....
RUNS OVER AND KILLS COP ON DUTY AT GALLE FACE!
A police constable who was on duty was unexpectedly killed from a road accident that
occured near Galle Face Green, Colombo this evening (7).
A police constable who was on traffic duty standing on the pavement on the sea-side in front of Shangrila Hotel which is presently under construction at Galle Face Green was the victim in this case. A Moratuwa - Pettah bus No. 100 which was being driven at a hectic speed around 3.30 this afternoon had tried to overtake another bus in an illegal manner on the lefthand side at the said location and had gone over the pavement and on that occasion it had overtaken the other bus by going over the body of a police constable who was on duty at that moment. Eye witnesses report that the wheels of the bus had run over the constable's feet and after having got entangled in the said bus he had got thrown away. As a result of the accident his feet and chest region had suffered severe injuries and although he had been taken to the Colombo National Hospital he had passed away after a short while. The victim was a 42 year old police constable named Porage Don Lasantha Kumara. It was understood that he was a father of 2 children and was from Habaraduwa.
The driver and conductor of the bus concerned were taken into custody. Further police inquiries are underway over the incident.
