Mahinda on a tour of Kurunegala ....

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who has has been appointed for the position of MP of Kurunegala District was on a tour during the past

few days looking into the welfare of those who were subjected to various predicaments during the last election period and after that too.

Mr. Janaka Deshapriya, a businessman of Kurunegala was subjected to thuggery and is under treatment in Kurunegala Hospital and Mahinda had visited him in hospital and looked into his condition. Mr. Deshapriya has become a victim of an assault from a group of people who happened to barge into a restaurant belonging to him. Though this incident had occured on the 21st, the day after elections and he had identified it as an act of political revenge, what the police say is that the cause of the incident was a case of a personal dispute. 

On his tour by Mahinda Rajapaksa, he also called over at the residence of provincial council member Mr. Samanpriya Herath too. He had stated that he was taken into custody on suspicion that Mahinda was to visit his house and hold a meeting during the election period. Mahinda had gone to see his wife, children and brothers and sisters to find as to how they were getting along while Mr. Deshapriya is still in remand custody.

Mahinda who brushed aside the appeal made from various quarters for him to step aside from politics instead outrightly says that he would represent the parliament. The reason he has quoted as a response to it is was that the masses of Kurunegala cast their votes for him not to stay at home and live as a pensioner but to make him a member of parliament.
