Mahinda deprived of postal voting provision
Former President Mahinha Rajapaksa is a
registered voter over the past elections from his Madamulana residence. However as he is a candidate from the Kurunegala district for the forthcoming general election had requested for a postal voting provision while continuing his election propaganda work in Kurunegala.
A request had been made by him to have the postal voting provision to be given on the 11th instant from Kurunegala.The authorities of the elections secretariat had declined his request as it would flout the normal elections postal voting procedures nevertheless being a past president.
In this contest he will have to travel and be in Medamulana to cast his vote on the elections day on the 17th instant as hitherto done by him. In the circumstances former President Mahinda Rajapapksa had to withdraw the application he had submitted by him for the facility of postal voting made for him.
