Reply to Maithri’s comments by Susil
The general secretary of the UPFA Susil
Premajayantha had called for a media briefing this afternoon to air his views to the comments made by the President Maihripala Sirisena yesterday on his political stand.
“ There are 260 candidates who are contesting from the United Peoples Freedom Alliance. Just two weeks ago President Maithripala Sirisena had called for a crucial meeting with me, Dinesh Gunawardena and the general secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom party and gave the consent for the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to be given nominations. President Maithripala Sirisena had agreed to make the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the leader of the election operations unit of the UPFA
Accordingly this information had been conveyed to Mahinda Rajapaksa on the 03rd instant. I had prepared all letters on the agreement of the executive committee members of the alliance. The nominations that have to be finalised with the elections commissioner is made by me as the secretary of the alliance. No one could enter into the national list who had not received nominations. From the President’s behaviour it was known that the Governor of Central Bank was wrong. During the period of important examinations elections are not held. But during the period of the forthcoming election the GCE advanced level is held. For students every decimal is important.
In order to safeguard the Prime Minster the President dissolved the parliament not thinking of the GCE advanced level examination of the students. What is gained by having an election by mortgaging the students and forming a government? A new government will be formed on the 18th of August”.
