A Court Order issued to cancel a meeting of the executive committee members sans Chairman
It had been planned to have a meeting of the executive
committee members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party this afternoon without the participation of the Chairman of the party, President Maithripala Sirisena.
A group of supporters of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party had filed a petition against this meeting to the Colombo district Courts.A restraining order had been obtained from the district courts against having this meeting sans the Chairman of the SLFP. The motive of the proposed meeting had been to oppose the comments made by the President Maithripala Sirisena on his political stand.
The intention of the General Secretary of the SLFP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa had been to remove the Chairman, President Maithripala Sirisena and to appoint another person instead. But this plan had been foiled owing to the restraining order obtained to prevent what was planned by the executive committee members of the SLFP headed by the General Secretary.
