United National Party decides to contest separately-Central Committee

The central committee of the United National Party has decided that the party would contest as a separate entity at the forthcoming general election.

It has also been decided that the authority to appoint the nominees for candidature has been entrusted to the Prime Minister and party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe.

These had been decided at the central committee meeting held.It has also been decided to have a party convention immediately after the government is dissolved and before the forthcoming parliamentary general election. This was disclosed to the media by the Minister of education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

The central committee meeting had been held at the party headquarters at Siri Kotha.
