Monies of Basil's Project money .....
in his wife's account!
It was exposed yesterday (25) at a news briefing called 'Helidarawwa' that crores of money
received as commission by former Minister of Economic Development Mr. Basil Rajapaksa from numerous projects including the Colombo Port Project had been credited to an account based on the Foundation operated by his wife.
Member of Parliament Nalin Bandara mentioned that the commission of American dollars one and a half lakhs granted to erect a part of the Port of Colombo had been credited to the Foundation which is being operated under the name of the former Minister's wife Mrs. Pushpa Rajapaksa. It has also been revealed that this monies has been utilised for the last Presidential Election. Apart from that, MP Nalin Bandara expressed that it has been revealed that the National Mortgage and Investment Bank too has given a sum of Rs. 15 lakhs to the Pushpa Rajapaksa Foundation during the period of the Presidential Election. The parliamentarian further said that it is the corrupted politicians who are responsible for having pocketed this commission of ten or fifteen per cent and not the Chinese Company.
Mr. Bandara said that this Foundation has been established as a charity organisation on November 24, 2010 and that the very same persons who launched this organisation on November 24, 2010 had utilised these finances which fact has been confirmed by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division according to their investigations.
