Mahinda cannot contest from the SLFP nor has provision to be elected from the National List
At the press briefing at the auditorium of the government News department where the decisions
taken at the cabinet were conveyed by Minister and cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne had disclosed the following.
The former president Mahinda Rajapaksa could not discuss with the President Maithripala Sirisena about his candidature of Premier post,to contest in the forthcoming general election and to become a Member of Parliament from the national list. Other than these questions the former president could discuss any other matters only.
It has been emphasised that these facts of the Sri Lanka Freedom party would stand and the former president would not be allowed to give nominations as well.Minister Rajitha Senaratne had said that the former president has been appointed as a advisor to the Sri Lanka Freedom party and hence it is not prudent for him to become a less important Member of Parliament. This has been discussed by many the Minister had added. This matter would become very puzzling as his supporters are insisting that he should come back.
