Basil attends new Parliament sessions for the first time today
Former Minister of economic development and Member of Parliament Basil Rajapaksa after
attending to parliamentary sessions under the former government under Mahinda Rakapaksa had attended the parliamentary sessions of the new government for the first time today the 26th instant.
Basil Rajapaksa almost after the presidential election loss had proceeded to the United States of America. However after a lapse of about three months he returned to Sri Lanka as a statement was to be given to the police financial crimes division in regard to discrepancies found in the ‘devineguma’ government account which was under his ministry.
After investigations he was ordered to be remanded by the district magistrate of Kaduwela courts.He was not allowed bail on a number of times as requested by his lawyers. He was reported sick and had been treated at the prison hospital and the Merchants ward in the General hospital. He had visited the Kaduwela district courts in an ambulance on each occasion.After one and a half months former Minister of economic development was released on bail.
Immediately upon granting bail he had admitted himself to a private hospital in Colombo and had remained for one week and when had been cured completely.
The following day today the 26th instant he had attended the parliamentary sessions of the new government for the first time.
During his absence from the Parliament, at his request the leader of the opposition had granted sick leave on two occasions it is reported.
