The incident where Sarath Fonseka who contested as a rival was dragged along and taken into custody when he
was addressing a public rally just a few days after the last Mahinda Rajapaksa regime was established is an incident which is spoken of still as a sensational incident as the most awesome instance of revenge seen in the political field.

Member of Parliament Wimal Weeravansha yesterday joined in a rupavahini dialogue and made a revelation hitherto not exposed in respect of that particular incident. Wimal Weeravansha had said this at the 360 Derana Programme. "The act of arresting Sarath Fonseka takes place not under the Common Law but under the Army Law. The allegation made against him was that he engaged in politics while still in the army. Instead of that, it was not a case where something called a Police Crime Unit was established and they had been ordered .. look ... take this person into custody. It was not something that happened like that. It was something that happened according to the Army Law and not what happened as a political scalp being hunted.

In the meantime I'll tell something which I had never told ... personally what happened on that occasion. The former President asked me .... a thing like this is going to happen and at this moment most honestly what I say is .... let not that happen. So, there is no problem for me of the type you'll are talking about where Sarath Fonseka's matter is concerned. On that point I maintain the stance that I remained correct in a personal way. But there was a situation where we couldn't control. That's because we are restricted in the case of controlling the Army Law. Whatever it is, it is that very same former President who granted certain civil rights at the request of those of the victim's family to that Sarath Fonseka that is being referred to".
