During the period when Wimal Weeravansha was holding the
Ministerial Post of Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities of the past regime, allegations have been made against him for having given estimates for a lower figure for 6 houses valueing 71 million rupees to some of his relatives from the project concerned for luxury houses to be built in Mattegoda and Kahatuduwa areas. Mr. Purna Chandana Silva who is the chairman of Ocean View Development Limited which is under the Ministry of Housing and Samurdhi held a media briefing yesterday (13) and explained matters relating to this.

What he says is that 2 houses had been given to husbands of the 2 elder sisters of Mr. Wimal Weeravansha, W. Hemasiri and Ananda Priyadarshana from the Housing Project eMattegoda aea after a payment of one premium as a commercial sale by his Company and that one house alone is estimated at the price of Rs. 14 million. In the same way, 4 of the houses one of which was sold at the housing project of Kahatuduwa area costing 10 million was bestowed on relatives and one of those was given to Ajith Kumara, a brother-in-law of Wimal Weeravansha (Sashi Weeravansha's elder brother). Incidentally he was a JVP member who was convicted and was imprisoned in an incident which created a great sensation of having thrown a bomb at the parliament during J.R.'s rule. In the same manner, he was arrested last January 12th and is presently on bail for allegations of aiming stones at Palaly Army camps in the North and for spreading rumours over mobile phones that the Eelam Flag has been hoisted.

Mr. Purna Chandana Silva mentioned yesterday that the other 3 houses have been given to Wathsala Kumarasingha, wife of Mr. Weeravansha's sister's son, Isuru Tharangamala, wife of Mr. Weeravansha's elder sister's wife and Milinda Ratnayaka of President's Media Unit.
