Former Principal of Kottawa Ananda College, M.G.G. Dharmadasa was cordoned last September 2013 over an attempt

of trying to take a sexual bribe of admitting a child to school and he had admitted guilty to the offence in courts yesterday.

As reported, the incident is as follows: An attractive mother had hoped to admit her child to Grade 1 in the year 2014 at Kottawa Ananda College, but the said child had been failed saying that he had secured low marks at the application after which the mother of the child was contacted over the telephone later from time to time by the Principal and he had been requesting her to come and meet him. As such when she had come to meet the Principal, he had put on a rakish smile and had told her, "children who had scored low marks we don't take ... but if I am given some service I can oblige with some support". When the mother had asked what it was, he had responded by quoting the name of a restaurant in Werahera and said, "if you come next Thursday to go there with me, I will attend to your child's problem ...only the two of us are aware of this". The mother who at that stage did not want to create a protest had given her consent and had complained to the Bribery and Corruption Commission. On their instructions she was told to act according to the proposal of the Principal in a manner showing that she responds positively ,thus creating faith in him giving the Principal the impression that she would turn up at the Werahera restaurant on the said date. Accordingly the Principal had taken steps to reserve a room at the Werahera restaurant. As arranged the lady had gone on Thursday afternoon to meet the Principal to the place named after which she had got into his vehicle and had made her way to the restaurant concerned.

The Bribery Commission officers had got into action when the two of them had entered the room. By that time about 5 minutes had elapsed and when the Bribery officers barged into the room, Dharmadasa Principal was nabbed red-handed dressed only in a towel.

As the act of trying to take a sexual bribe from the child's mother was proved, the Principal was taken into custody on Thursday by officers of the Bribery Commission. It was later revealed that even after all the required documents had been prepared by the child's mother in order to admit her child to Kottawa Ananda College, the child being failed too was found to be a hoax. If the Principal is pleased, the promise that he too would in return please them was a gimmick he had played on a large number of mothers making such illicit demands on them. They had, it was revealed at investigations had either given in to his proposals or had protested against his demands and had got up and gone away. However, most mothers had feared to approach going behind the police and lodge entries thinking that it would harm their self-respect.

In relation to the allegation made to the Bribery Commission by the child's mother for having asked for a sexual bribe in the instance of admitting a child to Year 1,the former Principal of Kottawa Ananda College Mr. M.G.Dharmadasa admitted his guilt yesterday (12) in the presence of Colombo Supreme Courts and the punishment to be imposed on him was postponed until the 15th.
