CID investigations about a bodyguard of Namal ....
bringing a gun to Hambanthota meeting attended by President!
A suspected character armed with a weapon had
come in close proximity to the spot the where the President arrived to attend the SLFP District Seminar held at Angunukolapelessa in Hambanthota last weekend and had been taken into custody with the weapon in his possession. The CID has started special investigations on this matter by now.
It was a certain corporal who had appeared there as a security-man of Namal Rajapaksa. At a moment that the President's security unit have had no suspicion over him, the the Special Task Force however had developed suspicions about him and on investigation it was found that he was in possession of a gun. Whenever the President was to attend any celebration the complete control is taken over by the President's Security Division in respect of his security and it is said that no other security agent or the police is permitted to bring in weapons and afford protection to others. It is understood that this matter has been adhered to for a number of years by the security personnel of MP Namal Rajapaksa.
It is said hat before coming to attend a festival, a report is prepared on the status of security conditions from a number of days prior to arrival and all security divisions are notified about it. At the moment of this incident, suspicions of the Police Special Task Force were aroused regarding this corporal who in fact was standing close to the President and when he was subjected to inspection, a pistol was found in his possession. They had then taken steps to arrest him.
Wickremasingha, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police who was in charge of President Maithri's security was serving in the same capacity under the ex-President and it is understood that after the said corporal was taken into custody the suspect was released with the weapon itself without taking any action against him. An investigation has been launched into this incident by the CID.
MP Namal Raapaksa has given a statement in this respect to the Daily Mirror newspaper over this incident where he states that he had come to know about this from the social media and that he is unaware that an incident of this sort has taken place.
