There had been widespread speculation in several print media that Sri Lankan cricketer

Kumar Sangakkara is to contest under the UNP ticket in the Kandy district when he quits cricket after the current world cup.

After this news spread widely Sangakkara had heard this via a friend of his had refuted this news by issuing a notification saying that his profession after cricket would not be politics.

However the same subject was surfaced widely among the media institutions. It has been felt by many reporters in the media that news that this news was spread by a close associate of Kumar Sangakkara could have been for the latter’s own interest. It is also said that to get publicity that Kumar Sangakkara would be available after the completion of the world cup which was purely for his own benefit.

However, most followers of Kumar Sangakkara are of the view that he should not come to politics after his retirement from cricket.
