During the last Presidential Election propaganda period a topic by the title of 'Yuthukame mnaapaya' was created. Tele-actress Sheril Deckker and her husband-singer Ruwan Hettiarachchi were among
those who appeared in the commercial featuring artistes for the purpose of helping Mahinda Rajapaksa gain victory. After Mahinda's defeat at the elections, they explained about it saying that they asked that Mahinda be voted for, for the sake of money and since they were paid the money .... that deal ended there and that it is wrong to interpret it as 'kade yaama'. Speaking to Mawbima newspaper yesterday, Sheril spoke in this manner:

"Neither I nor Ruwan is engaged in politics ... nor have we been. All artistes give their voice cut. Therefore we too were invited by the former government to subscribe. So we gave. We don't have a Party. We don't take a side and work. We were paid for giving our voice cut. If someone says that we were to be given various other benefits, it is totally false. We did not indulge in 'kade yaama' to anybody. The custom of people in Sri Lanka is to throw mud".
