over the ITN Channel and it was conducted by Upul Shantha Sannasgala.
Lalith Kotelawala had exposed a few days ago as to how the Rajapaksa family had ransacked his wealth and therefore most of the readers and the audience were anxious that he would reveal further details about it. But such a thing did not happen in this programme. On the contrary Mr. Kotelawala was continuously being interrogated right from the start of this programme by being cross examined as to who bestowed the Deshamanya title on this person who even did not pass the O/Ls .... then questioned that he 'lifted' money by displaying a solar power project in India ... who were the thousands who deposited money in lakhs with Golden Key? whether he knows that because of that Golden Key fraud those people even were inconvenienced to the extent going so far as committing suicide etc.
For some of these questions Kotelawala did not answer. What he said was that he was the chief of 400 odd companies and that he didn't know certain information. In the same way, since the previous government took steps to remove him from all that legally, he is prohibited from entering Ceylinco, Seylan Bank or Golden Key; therefore the present governing authorities should solve those problems. In the same way he said that he took measures to set a plan whereby those who had to face injustice over the Golden Key issue were to be paid back their monies and after seeing his assets and wealth the Rajapaksa regime had imprisoned him and had ransacked all that; thus preventing the final opportunity available for him to help those who faced injustice.
When Sannasgala kept on questioning Kotelawala about the Golden Key issue, what the latter said was that he did not know that he was invited for this programme for the purpose of being asked such questions and if necessary the government could get advice from him to develop Sri Lanka from his business acumen.
Bringing the programme to a close what Sannasgala said was that it is not necessary to worship images and that there are 'kanba horu' not only in the political field but in the financial arena too.
