Basil's monopoly!

Mr. Wimal Weerawansha who joined in a dialogue with BBC yesterday about the defeat at the Presidential Election said that because former Minister Basil Rajapaksha took everything into his hands in an authoritative manner and because the past government was unable to put their foot
down on it, it was not possible to negate the public opinion of the public that President Mahinda Rajapaksha was maintaining a 'family' administration.

Though the attention of the government was focused on certain changes that had to be implemented, he said that Ministers like Basil Rajapaksha did not allow such reformations be effected. He further mentions that the foremost decisive factor for Mahinda Rajapaksha's defeat and Maithreepala Sirisena to clinch victory with a large majority thus influenced the shift of voting results in other districts.

Member of Parliament Wimal Weerawansha who rejected the allegation brought forward against him by Prime Minister Ranil in parliament at its inaugural opening ceremony that he was responsible for Mahinda's defeat said that the speeches he made on election stage only influenced Mahinda to attract even one more vote and not to lose a single vote as such and that various stories are woven around to diminish the value of his speeches and thus is without foundation.

At the media discussion he expressed that he has no personal motive of insulting and if at all such insult was done, he has nothing else to do other than express his regret. At this point he had also mentioned that he would get together with former President and build up a political leadership necessary to defeat the present government inclusive of the UNP at the next parliamentary election.
