The point that was subjected to much talk during the recent past was that the main reason for calling for a presidential election 2 years prior to the scheduled date was the advice given through astrology. After the transgression of Saturn which took place recently, a series of malignant periods had to be faced for 2 years since the horoscope of

Mahinda would be more detrimental during that period; but because the effects of Saturn's malignancy would be lesser, it was his personal astrological counsellor Sumanadasa Abeygoonewardena who had advised him that it was a more suitable period for a presidential election.

It is well-known that from 2 years ago this advice was given and the former President was prepared from over 2 years ago for this very purpose -- for the presidential election. However, this astrologer who knew that his prediction did not hit the bull's eye now says, apparently in order to satisfy the Maithree segment, that he provided this information though he was aware of Mahinda's defeat beforehand. Most predictions that this 68 year old Sumanadasa had told Mahinda had come true. In fact, various items of metal and gems that Mahinda wears is because of his advice. Because Sumanadasa who worked with absolute faith in Astrology that Mahinda would win 4 times he had thus overestimated the victory this time too. 

A female reporter from the Daily Mirror contacted him to inquire about the misfired prediction to which Sumanadasa had responded in anger saying, "go away madam ... without slinging mud!" In addition he had confined himself to his home having disconnected his phone lines. In the meantime, NDTV Rupavahini of India is reported to have said that after this election, this is the final test of Sumanadasa's predictive ability. Only a handful of foreign media who got a chance of meeting Sumanadasa to report even a little bit of what happened. After the Guardian Newspaper managed to get in touch with him, Sumanadasa had explained that astrological predictions of Nostradamus the French Apothecary in 1500s too had gone astray. (Nostradamus was not someone who examined horoscopes like Sumanadasa and it is said that he was someone who saw the world centuries beforehand from some ingenious unseen power, writing down his predictions with poetic implications). 

"I did a great thing for him. But even to become a President.... that person must have luck no. After the incident I hid myself. But I don't think that I would lose those who consult me for horoscope-reading because of this".

He also said that when results were given on the dawn of Friday he had tried to pacify Rajapaksha. Sumanadasa has revealed to the French news media that Rajapaksha had that early morning left Temple Trees and had prior to that handed over the key of the bungalow where he was residing, the car and the driver and subsequently vacated the position of Director of the State Bank.

Sumanadasa who explains that he was though aware that Rajapaksha would lose that election, had no strength to tell him so and said that if he was to reveal that Rajapaksha would be defeated, he would mentally collapse ... and that his defeat would even be worse. "This result was written in his horoscope. The opposing candidate's horoscope was even more powerful than our sir's horoscope", he now says. What Sumanadasa said was that he was not able to detect in his astrological calculations that Sirisena was to leave the government. 

"Everybody can't become a President. If not I also could have deposited Rs. 75000 and become an independent candidate and become the President. When making predictions, there must be a margin of 5% for errors which should be so calculated" he said further.

"I told him not to accept the Chairmanship of the Commonwealth. Julia Gillard who held that position before Rajapaksha was defeated. That position was a crown of thorns. That very same thing happened to our sir", that is how he explained the incident finally.
